How to Create an Emergency Kit for Your Car
Anything that justifies me going out and equipping my car with a hatchet is awesome. No, seriously. Really though, call me an alarmist, but as a new dad of two beautiful babies, I was profoundly effected by the story of James Kim, the CNET Senior Editor, dying in the wilderness of Oregon.
“James kept his wife and kids alive while sacrificing his own life and I believe all men who read this story will hold James in the highest regard as a man among men who gave his two children the rest of their lives,” one reader wrote.
Becoming a dad brings out a primal urges (to be the Protector) in me I never would have foreseen – and obviously it does for other dad’s out there.
I am old enough to remember watching “The Day After” as a kid and being quite freaked out by it. Now, years later, living in fear of bird flu pandemics, west nile, imminent terrorism, global warming, et al. it isn’t so strange to seem a little skittish, does it? All of a sudden the idea of having a hatchet in the trunk sounds pretty good (joking, kinda’). On second glance, look at the Reader Comments on the Yahoo Emergency Kit article, it shows how many people have really though about survival kits, interesting).
