Thomas the Tank Engine Recall!

June 14th, 2007 Posted in alert!, dad, family, fyi, health

This was brought to my attention this morning and will share the details – thanks Chris for the tip.

Please pass this on to any parents you know who might have Thomas stuff.

RC2 Corp., the maker of Thomas the Tank Engine toys, and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall today of a number of trains and accessory parts because they are colored with lead paint. There have been no reports of injuries.

The recall is broad and covers Thomas products sold from January 2005 through today and retailed for prices from $10 to $70. According to a commission statement: The recall involves wooden vehicles, buildings and other train set components for young children. The front of the packaging has the logo “Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway” on the upper left-hand corner. A manufacturing code may be on the bottom of the product or inside the battery cover. Toys marked with codes containing “WJ” or “AZ” are not included in this recall.

Click on the links above for more specific information about the products and how to return or exchange them. Meanwhile, here is a breakdown by name of toy or accessory.

[...] The U.S. Consumer Safety Commission announced a massive recall on a number of Fisher-Price toys, perhaps on the heels of the recent recall of the wooden Thomas the Train toys. The reason for the recall sounds familiar; a number of Sesame Street, Dora the Explorer, and other children’s toys manufactured in China are being pulled because they contain dangerous amounts of lead-based paint.
