Fresh Farm Animal Graphics

Created by a teacher and graphic designer -and husband and wife-team-who after preparing for their own child discovered that new babies respond most to black and white geometric figures and patterns. It is only later that they start to recognize faces and animals. Cute, but not too cute, this flock of sheep, hen and baby chicks comes with rolling hills and fences for added ambiance.

   I was looking for Yule Log. In Pagan Scandinavia the Yule Log was lit in honor Thor, god of thunder and the winter festival of Yule would continue until this log burnt out which could take up to twelve days.

   The Puritans outlawed the celebration of Christmas in the late 1600′s while the settlers in Virginia celebrated it freely, but soon after the Revolutionary War the holiday fell out of favor since it was considered a British Holiday.

Little Elephants

I just discovered a crafty little site called LittleElephants.Com that is maintained by Veronique Christensen. Her mission statement is simple yet poignant; “(her) blog is about (re)capturing the fun and wonder of childhood.” That should be everybody’s mission statement!

Little Elephants is almost entirely dedicated to ideas for craft projects and fun activities for the whole family. Considering the amount of hi-tech diversions for kids this back-to-basics arts and crafts site may be just what the doctor ordered.

meta-DAD’s Top Six CD’s For Kids

That’s right — six. I could not wittle it down to five, and I’m totally comfortable with that.

It’s the end of the year and you know what that means a whole lotta lists are coming out to round out the Best Of 2007 categories. This is not the Best Of… because some of this stuff has been around for a year or two, kinda like my kids. And now that I’m a full-fledged dad always in search of new music I have been checking out some different genres and areas I don’t traditionally gravitate too.
